Fantasy Golf: The John Deere Classic Preview

Things have officially gotten weird with back-to-back winners and frankly, the Fantasy Golf Report was never designed to deal with this. You can't fuel an engine that runs on sarcasm and rancor with sustained success. That's like putting sugar in the gas tank of a dragster. Eventually happiness and satisfaction will creep in and then what have we got? Contentment? Or god forbid peace of mind? No thanks. Fuck all that.

I can already feel the edge slipping away. I need a damn missed cut marathon this week. Like going 0 for 10 on a Keno card. Obviously I'm going to try to keep the streak going but if that other shoe doesn't drop soon, I might be headed for a Chuck McGill in Better Call Saul situation. (Hey if you haven't watched the best show of the last ten years, then that's on you pal).

GOLF ANALYSIS

In the interest of full disclosure I need to remind everyone that I never use the same player twice for the "One and Done Pick" which is why I invented the "Other Guy I'd Pick" category as a stopgap. I couldn't wait to pull the trigger on Denny McCarthy this week until I discovered that I already burned him with a missed cut at the Honda Classic. I'd attribute it to bad luck but the way I'm running it may actually be a sign. We're gonna put it through the ultimate beta test by going with a guy named "Schenk."

The rest of the picks are a nice blend of guys with strongish histories at TPC Deere Run (Emiliano Grillo and Lucas Glover) and guys who are just playing solid golf (Stephan Jaeger and Doug Ghim). Tell me you can't picture Ghim carrying the lead into Sunday with the announcers tripping all over themselves to tell us how his breakthrough was just a matter of time like they do with half the guys who fade to 6th and are never heard from again. "I'll tell you Dottie, we've been seeing this coming for a while from this young talent blah blah blah" . . . (cue Dottie's eye roll).

Man we lost an all-time FGR favorite last week. Too many Alan Arkin classics to reference here but the one that will forever standout for me is this moment at the beginning of Little Miss Sunshine when he made it clear that this movie which you hadn't quite figured-out yet was going to be pretty fucking special. And it is.
