Fantasy Golf: Dell Technologies Preview

The end of season depression has morphed into fatigue which has manifested itself as interest in the FedEx Cup that ranges from zero to something less than that. Apparently I'm not alone as the PGA Tour is considering the 47th rule/format change to the event since its inception in 2005. The fundamental problem is that they're trying to stage a marathon where slower runners get pulled-off the course every 6.5 miles and then have a 100 yard dash at the end where the winner of the marathon and the sprint have to be the same guy or the ending is more anticlimactic than the final episode of Downton Abbey (yes I'm still bitter). There's just one problem with that whole marathon/sprint concept. It's stupid.

That isn't stopping them from trying to force it to work, however, as now they're proposing that the leader of the FedEx Cup points race gets to start the Tour Championship at -10 with his pursuers starting at -9, -8, etc. (I swear that I am not making this up). Apparently the awesome scenario they're envisioning is that the points leader plays like Scott Simpson, shoots four rounds of even par and eeks-out a win over a guy who plays great and shoots -9. Then on Sunday afternoon they hand both trophies and about $12M to a guy who just spent seventy-two holes shooting at the middle of the greens. I swear if these idiots ran the NFL they'd create a rule where you got a fifteen yard penalty for accidentally hitting another player with your helmet (wait a minute).

But that's next year and this is now (or at least it was a second ago). The only good thing you could say about my one and done picks to date is that at least I'm not going to leave any great options on the table. At this point I'm pretty much down to Adam Scott, Paul Casey, Phil Mickelson, Francesco Molinari and Bryson DeChambeau. Scott is such the obvious pick this week that there is almost no doubt in my mind that he's going to miss the cut and I should take Casey. In addition to being on a serious roll of late, the Aussie finished 4th here in 2016, top ten from 2010-12, runner-up in 2004 and he won the thing in 2003. Phil's record ain't too shabby with a T6 last year, top tens in 2011-12 and a win in 2007 but Scott is currently on fire and you are going to feel like a jackass if he wins and you don't pick him (and by "you" I mean "me").

As for the rest of the picks, Billy Horschel looks like he's ready to do some crazy FedEx Cup Billy Horschel shit and Patrick Reed hasn't finished worse than T6 here since 2014. In the top tier I'm going with Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy over Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Jason Day because the first two have won here and the other three have not (so there). My sleeper is Abraham Ancer who I'm going to pick every week until he wins because it's coming. I can feel it. Like a burgeoning dairy fart.

The only reason this picture is on
this post is to try to give it a pulse.
One and Done Pick: Adam Scott

Other Guy I'd Pick: Rory McIlroy

Sleeper Pick: Abraham Ancer
