Ok here's the deal folks. Last week's picks sucked. I was distracted by my impending trip to Florida to reclaim past glories by glomming onto a loaded lacrosse team competing for the over 45 national championship (yes that's a real thing and I have the pulled hamstring, strained quad and 48 hour hangover to prove it). We came-up a few goals short in the title game which is more than I can say for my picks which seemed to go out of their way to avoid the most obvious choice of the week, Adam Hadwin, who finished tied for 2nd. Instead I decided to get clever and pick Bud Cauley for no logical reason whatsoever. It was like losing a battle of wits with a cheese danish.
This week I'm going to keep it simple and conservative. What is already a loaded field every year is mega loaded this week as guys like Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth decided to join regulars like Jason Day, Justin Rose, Jon Rahm, Tony Finau and of course, Tiger Woods. I give all of those guys a reasonable shot to win which is why I'm not picking any of them. Too many studs and I don't want to waste one and risk him being the guy left out of the hunt (but I'm really tempted to take Finau). So I'm going to play the Charles Howell, III card this week. He probably won't win but he's guaranteed to make the cut and about 50/50 to finish in or near the top five. I need to stop the bleeding after the Gary Woodland/Bud Cauley fiascoes and Chucky Triple Sticks is the right man for the job.
That's all I got this short week. Oh wait, I also really like Luke List, Kyle Stanley and Harris English. That's it. Wait, hold on. A couple of good super sleepers are Jhonnatan Vegas and Scott Stallings who are both capable of pulling the random top five or even a win at any time. I'm going with Vegas in that role. Now I'm done. Time to pump another handful of Advil and start conjuring-up my next midlife crisis endeavor.
One and Done Pick: Charles Howell, III
Other Guy I'd Pick: Tony Finau
Sleeper Pick: Jhonattan Vegas

The golf course porn will continue until we get two consecutive nice fucking days in the Northeast. |
