So you sit on your ass for a couple of weeks and watch a lot of football and the whole time you're wondering "when does the real 2019 PGA Tour season start" because you still refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of the wraparound schedule. A couple of times you actually ponder the dates and think that, if New Years Day is on a Tuesday, then the season probably starts that week but you're not really sure and you don't really care because it's like December 28th or something and what fucking day is it anyway?
Then you actually go to PGATour.com, look-up the schedule and boom, there it is. Time to get your ass back to work. At least you get to ease into it with a limited field event so the research takes about seven minutes or half as long as usual.
I'm not going to over think this because the winner of the Sentry Tournament of Champions is usually the guy who enters the season in the best form. I'm also not going to over think it because I really just want to sit here and stare at the sun-soaked beauty of the Rose Bowl after another day in the Mid-Atlantic that made you feel like you'd been dropped into a dystopian novel. ("Mommy why did the mole people take the sun away?").
So I'm going with current world #1 Brooks Koepka who has now proven that on any given day he can hit it and putt it better than anyone in whatever conditions you throw at him. If you're the kind of person who doesn't like to throw a big chip on the pile this early in the season, then take a look at Xander Schaffele or Marc Leishman. Schauffele will probably get you at least a top five and, if you use Leishman now, you will avoid having him disappoint you later. So there's that.
As for more affordable options, Keegan Bradley appears to have returned to some semblance of his formerly world class self and Billy Horschel is definitely worth a flyer at $7,000 which means that Patton Kizzire is most definitely worth a flyer at $6,200. The guy won twice last year including once in Hawaii before deciding to take a little well deserved "me" time in the form of a bunch of missed cuts but he's now made eight in a row with a T15 his last time out. Apparently someone showed him what his bank account is going to look like if he keeps flying around the country just to play casual rounds on Thursdays and Fridays.
One and Done Pick: Brooks Koepka
Back-up Pick: Xander Schauffele
Sleeper Pick: Keegan Bradley
DraftKings Top Ten Values
And everyone else you might want to consider a/k/a the entire field. Not a whole lot to go on here other than the stellar track records of Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed. Of course I'm not picking either of those guys because you know, trying not to over think it.

We are officially switching to soft-core weather/scenery porn until further notice. |
