Fantasy Golf: The Palmetto Championship Preview

I would be remiss at the outset if I failed to note that the last three FGR picks have finished T8, 2nd and 1st. This run has propelled me to the top of the leaderboard in my league of fellow country club assholes. The fact that there is a leaderboard of assholes out there and this is the first time I've been on top of it is a bit of an upset but clearly it was only a matter of time.

TWEET OF THE WEEK

Was struggling to find one this week and then BOOM . . . enter Phil Mickelson. Either he is a Twitter savant, or he has the best social media guy/girl since the 2018 UMBC basketball team.

GOLF ANALYSIS THAT PAIRS BEST WITH FISH

This week's course is so unknown and the field is so weak that I actually resorted to looking at Rob Bolton's Power Rankings as a source of information. And that was before Branden Grace and Charley Hoffman dropped-out (oh no we can't afford to lose those B-listers). I mean shit. Cameron Tringale isn't even playing so we don't even have an accurate barometer but I'm pretty sure this one would come-in as a "Sucks" if he was there.

I don't know if I'm encouraged or disgusted that my somewhat random pick is 3rd in the PGATour.com Power Rankings. At least I'm not completely wandering in the woods. I guess. I'd probably go with Matt Fitzpatrick if I had him available as he seems to enjoy South Carolina based on his strong to respectable showings at Harbour Town and Kiawah. Those were, however, coastal events so we'll see how he takes to the feted low country setting of Congaree. If you haven't played golf hungover in a humid swamp before, don't.

The rest of the picks are a veritable who's who of hold your nose and pick 'em players headlined by Patton Kizzire who is taking over the Tringale role this week at a whopping $9,100. Seems a little steep for the 108th ranked player in the world but he does have two top five finishes in his last three starts. He appears to have turned things around a bit after winning two tournaments in the space of about nine weeks in 2017-2018 and then spending the better part of the next two years going "aw fuck it, let's get loose." He will of course find no judgment here.

This may end-up being the guy
if I spend enough time thinking
"Lucas Glover? Seriously?"
One and Done Pick: Lucas Glover

Other Guy I'd Pick: Matt Fitzpatrick

Sleeper Pick: Satoshi Kodaira
