So I actually kind of knew what I was talking about last week and, if you had been able to glean the best line-up from my ten recommendations (and filled-in your own low price guys because mine stunk), you could've fielded part of a really strong team with Cameron Smith (1st), Webb Simpson (3rd), Lanto Griffin (T7), Charles Howell, III (T12), Sungjae Im (T21) and Colin Morikawa (T21). I at least hope that you heeded my advice on avoiding the completely obvious Justin Thomas trap. Look I can't help you if you don't listen to me.
In addition to my almost stellar golf picks, I wrote a NFL Divisional Round Preview that was so weak as to be not worth publishing (yeah imagine how weak that must've been) in which I picked the Chiefs, Titans and 49ers to cover so I'm on a bit of a roll. You'll just have to take my word for it. We can build on this!
But first . . .
TWEET OF THE WEEK
Normally I'm not so self-aggrandizing as to feature one of my own tweets here but the only one that rivaled this effort by me was a guy who wanted to ask Neil DeGrasse Tyson why every time he blows his nose in the shower it ends-up on his junk. I'm giving this effort a slight nod over that.
This is a tough week for highly experienced fantasy golf experts like myself because, as you will see in the chart below, the good players don't make a habit of stopping in the desert on their way back from Hawaii. Add to that the fact that the top two spots on the leaderboard over the past five years have been populated by the likes of Adam Long, Hudson Swafford, Andrew Landry, Sung Joon Park and Steve Wheatcroft a/k/a five guys you couldn't pick out of a ten man lineup if the other five guys were the starters for the Detroit Pistons.
And this year we have the added problem of Adam Hadwin skipping the event. He was by far the most reliable pick here and his absence this week represents the first time in recorded history when we must ask ourselves "oh my God what are we going to do without the Canadian?"
Well I'll tell you what we're going to do. Ignore conventional wisdom and play a bunch of educated hunches. Charles Howell, III is our one chalky pick but then we're getting creative with Scottie Scheffler who's got a bit of Phil Mickelson in him which will serve him well at this birdie-fest. From there we're going to lean on guys playing well (hey savvy strategy) like Jason Kokrak, Abraham Ancer and Brendan Steele who has the added benefit of some relatively consistent success at the Stadium Course. Oh by the way, if you waste a one and done pick on Rickie Fowler or Paul Casey this week, I will find you and I will shame you. Publicly.
One and Done Pick: Scottie Scheffler
Other Guy I'd Pick: Abraham Ancer
Sleeper Pick: Bill Haas
DraftKings Top Ten Values
If your a professional golfer and you've had any kind of success here in the past, congratulations. You're one of our sleeper picks this week. And yes, I'm going to keep going back to that Bill Haas well on courses where he has won until I prove to myself that I didn't drain the magic from his putting stroke when I shook his hand by the booze cart four years ago. "Hi I'm Ron . . . can I get two double Ketel One Transfusions and four Bud Lights please."

EXPERT LIKE GOLF ANALYSISMy son who is teaching at a school in Belize went to a chicken drop last night. Apparently you bet a number on the floor and, if the chicken shits on it, you win. Sorry JB. Readership is up so I'm not ready to revert to click-bait pics but you know it's coming. |
