Fantasy Golf: The 3M Open Preview

I thought about taking this week off as the 2026 golf season effectively ended when Ryan Fox's winning putt dropped but cranking this thing out at least once a week has turned into my own personal version of not letting the terrorists win. We are all soldiers in this ongoing war to save humanity and every little bit counts

Speaking of which, we saw some positive signs that the universe is on our side in this fight with both Bryson DeChambeau and Argentina losing on Sunday. One thing I've come to enjoy in my advancing years is watching horrible people who have dodged scrutiny with false personas inevitably reveal who they really are. Not that it changed anyone's mind in these days of people dying on hills for even the likes of Phil Mickelson. I mean if you didn't already recognize Bryson as a colossal douchebag, then his threat to call Donald Trump on the R&A probably seemed reasonable and I wish you all the best (not really).

As clownish as DeChambeau was, even if he had followed through on his threat to take his clubs and go home (which would have been awesome), he wouldn't have come close to the absolute buffoonery of the Argentinian soccer team. If you're playing for the honor of being considered the best team in the world, maybe you should employ a strategy that would lead to taking at least one shot in regulation. I get it's a tricky balance when the overriding strategy is to have your players rolling around on the ground for 90+ minutes but still. Who knows? Maybe I just lack a deeper understanding of the "beautiful game".

GOLF ANALYSIS

Suffice it to say the golf analysis this week will not be in depth. When you're last five winners are Kurt Kitayama, Jhonatten Vegas, Lee Hodges, Tony Finau and Cameron Champ, you have to accept that we're in for a bit of a crapshoot. Scottie Scheffler's involvement changes that a bit in that he's probably going to win by at least five shots but we've gone ahead and suggested some guys who have been playing well lately.

I'm throwing longshot bets down on Lucas Glover and Beh Kohles assuming the random nature of this tournament continues. Even Scottie hasn't been immune to such forces this year so maybe I can salvage a season I'd like to soon forget with $10 on Lucas Glover at +10,500. It certainly can't yield much less than most of my other bets this year. In fact it's mathematically impossible.

We've got no theme for the Historical Performance Chart this week. We thought about giving a nod to F.I.F.A. for paving the way to an unwatchable final but seriously, fuck those guys.

HISTORICAL PERFORMANCE CHART

This week's chart is limited to a select few who have a track record at TPC Twin Cities plus Scheffler and Corey Conners. Oh yeah, thanks for giving me a taste of what it feels like to smoke three packs a day Corey. I still sound like Mickey Rourke in Barfly
