Fantasy Golf: The Arnold Palmer Invitational Preview

Things have gotten a little crazy at the FGR day job as our Federal government rapidly transitions from being run by the kind of people who walk on the treadmill at the gym at 2.0 m.p.h. while reading a paperback to people who walk on the treadmill at the gym at 3.2 m.p.h. while annoying the shit out of everyone around them by shouting into their phones about absolutely nothing of consequence. Not sure why we can never just get the guy who jogs at 7.5 m.p.h. while listening to the Counting Crows and then wipes the machine down when he's done.  

The result is that I've spent way too much time lately trying to figure-out how to avoid being the sucker in the supply chain who gets left holding the bag on tariffs while I sit in the gym conjuring-up stupid treadmill analogies and not enough time studying strokes gained tee to green. So it's going to be a slightly less than Signature Event caliber effort this week. We'll make it up to you next week with a solid 5th major effort. 

GOLF ANALYSIS

Actually I did look-up the current strokes gained tee to green stats and it revealed that Rory McIlroy is almost lapping the field in 2025. I know it's based on limited rounds but Rory is at 2.112 and the next four guys are 1.341 (Collin Morikawa), 1.341 (Scottie Scheffler), 1.329 (Tommy Fleetwood) and 1.325 (Alex Smalley). I have no idea what those numbers really mean but I do know that: (a) they filled some space in this post, and (b) when you're 37% better than the average of the next four guys on a golf stat, that's really fucking good. 

The obvious pick is Scottie Scheffler but he's winning the U.S. Open so we're saving him for that and his odds this week are borderline prohibitive. I'm really toying with picking Rory but the freakin' PGA Championship is back at Quail Hollow this year and he's a perfect fit for that track where he's won four times. Then Russell Henley caught my eye but he never wins (four in thirteen years) so he's a great top five bet but I desperately need a winner. 

With all of that being said, the current plan is to half bitch-out and go with Patrick Cantlay who's been in a nice groove this season. I didn't like him before the Ryder Cup bullshit and can't stand him now but sometimes you just have to set emotions aside and think rationally which has always been my strong suit.
