Fantasy Golf: The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Preview

Let's start with an update on the FGR Top 100 Movies of All-Time list which has taken on a life of its own. I would encourage everyone to try this exercise, if for no other reason so that you too can wake-up at 3:45 a.m. in a cold sweat thinking "there's a Matt Dillon movie that I'm forgetting!" (It was The Flamingo Kid and then I was up for the next hour tossing and turning over whether I should consider To Die For and Drugstore Cowboy . . . and WILD THINGS?!?")

I currently have 141 movies under consideration and I don't feel like I can start breaking them down until I stop adding two new ones a day. At this point, I estimate that there at least 35 that I haven't thought of yet and I won't remember at least 15 of those until I publish it at which point I expect that people will send me very polity emails starting with "Dear Dumbass . . ." Eh. I've been called worse.

TWEET OF THE WEEK

This Rory clip and why I love it so are going to require a bit of setup. First, I have an unabashed crush on Rory (we know). Second, and more importantly, there has been a recent proliferation of vile scumbags in our everyday midst spurred on by the internet and media personalities who feast on the desire of some people to just be hot and bothered all day. These types of people range anywhere from your psychos who stalk members of the local school board because they haven't banned Charlotte's Web yet to the losers who write multi-paragraph comments on Facebook posts. They're bad enough. Obviously.

But then you have another group of people who aren't satisfied if we just barely tolerate and attempt to ignore these loons. No they want us to be cordial and walk around with a perennially extended olive branch. Rise above our differences and find common ground so feelings don't get hurt and we can all just be comfortable. That's the guy asking the question in this clip.

And Rory is like fuuuuuuuck that. Only he says it with nothing more than a look and a shrug that hopefully had that jackass crawling under his chair in shame. And while we're here, a special fuck you from me to everyone calling Rory self-righteous because he won't give the time of day to a complete subhuman who deserves zero respect. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to be practicing these faces in the mirror.

GOLF ANALYSIS

The FGR theory on Jordan Spieth until proven otherwise is that, if you truly believe in him, then you save him for the Masters or the British Open. If, however, you find yourself wavering, then use him at Pebble Beach where he has a runner-up and a T3 the last two years to go along with a win in 2017. My current faith is just strong enough to save him and see how the next few weeks go. Worst case, he's still a good fit at Harbour Town.

Matthew Fitzpatrick drew very serious consideration this week but he's got a nice record on the Florida swing and very much has that Adam Scott/Webb Simpson one major + a Players title vibe. As for Viktor Hovland, he is absolutely contending in at least two majors this year if not winning as many so please don't take the bait and waste him here.

With that, the pick this week came down to Seamus Power or Maverick McNealy. It was close but we're going with the heartwarming story of the local underdog Stanford grad and son of the guy who cofounded Sun Microsystems. We're just kind of sappy that way.

The overall field is kind of low-grade dogfood but we actually feel pretty good about picks like Nick Taylor and Scott Stallings. And we love Jimmy Walker in the sleeper role. Yes he's 44 years old but but he finished T13 last week and Johnny "Yips" Miller walked out of the booth and won this thing when he was 46 for chrissakes.

Currently sitting just outside
the top 100 but it's still very
early in the analytical process.

Speaking of The Flamingo Kid, let's go ahead and pay tribute to an actor who nailed two of the most iconic movie roles of the 80's. One minute he was offering you a Lowenbrau while running a low level con game at a Long Island beach club and the next minute he was warning Barney Fife to stop trying to catch a guy who's been trained "to eat things that would make a billy goat puke!" (Shit now I need to add that to the list).

                                       THE RICHARD FUCKING CRENNA
                                     HISTORICAL PERFORMANCE CHART

As noted above, this field ain't much to look at as evidenced by the fact that, based on past results, you may find yourself seriously considering Russell Knox, Nate Lashley and Ryan Moore this week.
