Fantasy Golf: FedEx St. Jude Championship Preview

I finally bit the bullet and watched Happy Gilmore 2 the other night and I have to begrudgingly admit that it exceeded my expectations. Sure those expectations were on the negative side of zero and it's completely over the top but they fully committed to the bit and it actually worked most of the time. 

The Tour pros acquitted themselves pretty well as actors with top honors (as usual) going to Scottie Scheffler, Will Zalatoris and our pick of the week who stole one of the cameo loaded scenes. Not everyone had their best day, however, as Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino were a little cringy as the old guys (no thanks to the schticky lines they were given) while Rory McIlroy displayed all the stage presence of a high school linebacker who only signed-up for the school play to get laid. 

So if you were at all a fan of the 1990's Adam Sandler movies, give it a look. It's not quite the the caliber of the original or Billy Madison but it's certainly better than Little Nicky and Grown Ups. Ah if only we all got to be measured by the Adam Sandler movie standard.     

GOLF ANALYSIS

Time to head to Memphis for some golf because what else would you rather do in August other than maybe repave parking lots in Kenya? Funny story (we'll be the judge of that). My son goes to college in Memphis and last year when I dropped him off we decided to play some midday tennis on a craggy public school hardcourt. Neither one of us would admit how what a terrible idea it was and how miserable we were so it took about 90 minutes of torture before we simultaneously and spontaneously capitulated before we combusted. 

I feel like this could finally be Tommy Fleetwood's time. As you can see from the randomly dotted chart below, TPC Southwind like most TPC courses doesn't really favor a particular type of player . . . short, long, good, mediocre . . . so why not Tommy this week? I mean deep down we know that's not going to happen so the pick is Xander Schauffele who finished runner-up last year and is more due for a win than the sports fans of Minnesota who haven't been to a parade since Joe Peschi and Jack Nicholson were chewing-up scenery in movie courtrooms. 

Feels like the smart money is on some top ten bets this week as either Ben Griffin or Harris English is sure to flash the form that has made them two of the best players in the world since May. And with a limited field, I like my chances on a Tony Finau top 20. Then again, I'm the guy who likes his chances of having a normal experience at Trader Joe's so take that for what it's worth. (That's actually a lie . . . I have no expectations of a normal experience in that freak tent).

You might find it hard to believe but the John Daly/Steve Buschemi scenes were a tough watch but you won't find two guys more qualified to celebrate alcoholism with a bizarre hint of pedophilia.
